About TrainRouter

A free interactive atlas of the world's notable train routes. No ads, no signup, no tracking.

TrainRouter is built and run by one person, based in Norway, as a hobby project. The code and first-draft data compilation are AI-assisted; route selection, every correction and every published fact go through a human pass.

Figures are approximate published values gathered from public sources: operator sites, timetables, Wikipedia. They are not live schedules, and they are not booking data. When something matters (a departure, a price, whether a train still runs), check the operator.

The whole atlas is open data under CC BY 4.0, archived with a DOI, and the map can be embedded on any site for free.

The same person also builds a few sister atlases: Castlemap, Sunshine Atlas, Beachmap and Detourmap.

Errors get fixed

An atlas of 770 routes will contain mistakes. Reporting them works: corrections usually ship within a day, and every substantive fix is dated and credited in the corrections log. Found one? Open an issue on the dataset's GitHub repo, or mention it wherever the atlas is being discussed.
